Aims of Education According to the Secondary Education Commission (1952-1953)

The Secondary Education Commission was appointed vide Government of India Resolution No. F9-5/52-B-1 under the chairmanship of Dr. A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar. The commission suggested the following aims of education. 

Democratic Citizenship

India achieved independence in 1946 and adopted its constitution in 1950. So it was necessary to transform India into a secular democratic republic. 

That means the educational system must contribute to inculcate habits, attitudes, qualities, and character of people to enable them to bear the responsibility of democratic citizenship.
